quick update.

Sorry to be brief, because obviously we have been slackers... but we are alive and did not forget about this here blog.

After a long weekend with not 1 but 2 sad losses in our football lives, I just don't have it in my heart to post a long blog. But maybe, I will after we finish unpacking from our trip to Arkansas,
recuperate from our tiger AND redskin losses and get a good night sleep in our own bed...

But trust, there are a lot of super cute pictures of Delaney to look forward to and maybe one or two of Rick and I.

We love you all!

Love,
your traveled-out richmonders.

from the rice cache.

This is a picture from camping a Kiptopeake State Park. These are the trips that we learned the most about each other and eventually fell in love! Which is the reason we got married on the Eastern Shore!

We actually haven't camped there in about 2 years so that is definitely on our to-do list for next summer!

Hope this finds everybody happy and healthy. My sister and her husband and daughter are in town this weekend so I will update again Sunday or Monday.

Love,
your happy-to-be-in-home-for-the-weekend richmonders.

a weekend in baton rouge.

Well, the good news is... even though LSU lost, we still had a blast!

Rick and I both left work early on Friday to catch a plane down to Baton Rouge. Aside from a 20-minute-delay in Atlanta due to maintenance issues we had pretty smooth traveling the whole evening.

My parents picked us up from the airport and we headed to Chimes for drinks and dinner. They have 102 beers on tap so our options were not limited. Dave joined us for dinner and I had oysters on the halfshell with dad and it was the first time I ever really enjoyed them! Aside from that, I had the best seafood gumbo maybe ever. (Although, King's Palace in Memphis has been my #1 for quite some time!)

We got up pretty early on Saturday to get ready since it was a 330pm game. We tailgated with some friends of my parents that they met in Florida, who we will also be tailgating with in Arkansas for Thanksgiving.

Dad took us over to Mike the Tiger's lair before the game... we thought because it had been 2 years since we have been there BUT come to find out he had bought new bricks for us. Rick was pretty stoked, as was I of course! but this was Rick's very first brick.

The game was really exciting and disappointing... We saw the most awesome field goal block by our defense that sent us into a surreal moment only to watch Jarrett Lee throw an interception in the first series of overtime to give the game away. That wasn't his only mistake but the one that hurts the most.

But, c'est la vie... It is just a football game. I guess...

We got to see my second-cousin Jared during our walking around and are planning to go eat lunch with him, his kids and his folks (Uncle Sanders and Aunt Brenda) at Mike Anderson's this afternoon for lunch. YUM!

Then we are headed back to Richmond late tonight.

Overall a great weekend! I adore my parents and are constantly reminded how much fun they are and how lucky I am to have them!

Love,
your blessed richmonders.

from the rice cache.

So, I have this friend that posts a blog, I think once a month that just has a random photograph from some point. So being the copy cat that I am... (and because our life can be quite boring to post about!) I thought I would start something new to add some pizazz to our blog!

We will call it...
from the rice cache

My plan is to try and post at least once a week, and i will have an old photograph and maybe a story or at least a short blurb about what it is.

Yes, I realize I am a geek.

So here goes...

This is our first date. Not as in the first time we ever hung out (that was a couple days before) but the very first time we hung out alone. (You can tell I was really trying to impress him with my cute outfit and hair!)

Rick had texted me on my way back from the beach to see what I was up to. He ended up coming over, we got a 12-pack and talked for 8 hours about everything imaginable... I think my friend even came over on her study break because I was super nervous it was going to be awkward but it never was.

And we have been together ever since. Rick even borrowed that oakley sweatshirt that used to be my brother's and that, too, he has had ever since.

Yes, I realize this first one was a bit cheesy.

Love,
us.

Ps. We are headed to Louisiana tomorrow for the LSU v. Alabama game. So be expecting a nice update on Monday!

officially Mrs. Rice!

Yea... that is right, I lied before. Today is the first day I am OFFICIALLY Mrs. Rice. I finally went to DMV and had my license changed. My legal name is Erin Shelton Rice :)!

In other news... I baRACKed the vote yesterday. I went to the polls with my parents at about 545am. We were out by 620am so, no horror stories from us about long lines. It was super nice to get it out of the way early!

Rick and I, unfortunately, were too exhausted to stay up for the official announcement but I was informed by text message in my sleep!

So, a bit of history for you... in 17 elections (68 years) when the Redskins have
won the game before the presidential election the party in the White House has not changed, but every time they have lost, the party has changed.

So, as you can imagine, the Monday night game was a nail biter for us... Do we root for the Redskins to win and hope that this election will be different? OR, do we secretly root for the Steelers so that Obama will be elected? Well, we rooted for the Redskins hoping this year would be different...

Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, the Redskins lost and so did the republican candidate! So this election follows the path of history and will make the 18th election that Reskins winning or losing coincided with a party switch in the White House. Call me superstitous but I am a believer!

So all you McCain fans should've rooted for the Redskins! And maybe he wouldn't have lost by a landslide.

Pretty crazy, huh?

As you can tell, we were a very happy household.

I will get off my soapbox now!

I hope this finds everybody happy, healthy and looking towards a brighter future, because let's be honest, we can only go up from where we are now, regardless of who our president is!

Okay, I am really stepping off now...

Love,
your obama-lovin richmonders.

happy halloweenie!

So I had the most fabulous Halloween. I woke up at 530am yesterday to get ready in my awesome costume for work... (We have a big Halloween Parade at work). I dressed up as a character from Candyland. Then, Rick and I hosted a Halloween/House-Warming Party with food and beer! It was very fun!

Our street shuts down for a block party every Halloween and apparently I was not prepared because I ran out of candy at about 830pm. But, my parents came over and cooked some yummy enchilada soup (which was gone about the same time the candy was!) and hung out for awhile, which was super fun!

Here we have Queen Frostine, Princess Lolly, and Mrs. Mint (Mr. Mint's wife)

And now for something completely different...

We are finally settled in and we have a home...

Kk that is all for now. We are off to Saturday brunch with our friends. I will post again soon!

Love,
your halloweened-out richmonders.
