Not sure if I can safely say that I am late on the happy new year wishes because I am a slacker or because it really has been a busy start to a new year... but I am going to go with the latter...
We had a great new years with a few friends at a concert... Then we stayed in and had a lazy new years day which was sooo wonderful! Rick fixed us a big brunch (which happened to be our first meal on our brand new and quite adorable kitchen table!)
As for school, it has been a tad bit hectic! We have 3 transitions throughout the school year (kind of run on semesters like a college: summer, fall, spring...) And they occur in June, September and you guessed it, January. So, we are gearing up to have 7 move up to my room which will make 28 on my roster with 26 on any given day (we have some part-timers that flip-flop days).
More kids means another teacher! They have hired another assistant. I am excited about having the extra support. I currently have an amazing support teacher but some months it is hard to get everything done on top of EVERYTHING ELSE (I mean seriously, my kids have a 4 page assessment I fill out monthly and every 3 months they get sent home with comments from me, basically their report cards.) It will definitely be nice to have another person to help get all the project prep work finished so I can focus on the more administrative things! Plus, with an extra 7 kids per day we are going to need the extra classroom management skills!
It sounds stressful, well it is going to be, but for someone like me who absolutely loves her job, the challenging side of all of this is the exciting part!
I definitely think it helps that whatever I teach my kids, they absorb, so it makes me want to teach them everything I can... and with 3 teachers in the classroom, it is going to open a lot more windows to teach them EVERYTHING they want to learn.
Enough about me... there is more exciting news in this Rice household!!!
For those of you who don't know, Rick has been talking about opening an excavation company since I met him. It has always been his dream...he really is just a man who still loves to play in dirt :)!
Well this year, he made it his new year's resolution... so he had the whole year to accomplish this goal but managed to meet it in 7 days!
Yes that's right, Rick started a company, his very own, state-licensed company!
So if you need a septic system installed or land cleared for say... a parking lot or driveway, Rick is the guy for you! Call- JR Rice Excavation!
Right now he is only taking weekend jobs and eventually plans to bring in enough money to quit his current full-time job to expand, but right now he is just taking baby steps. We will keep everyone posted on his progress!
So needless to say, I think the busy new year excuse works because boy has it been busy!
We hope this finds everybody happy, healthy and keeping warm!
Love,
your business-booming richmond rices.
Ps. Because we've been missing our weekly posts "from the rice cache," I thought I would share one from Christmas...
Delaney at the Shelton family Christmas in Maryland, waaay too precious not to post!
